Samenvatting
Allergie is een immuunrespons op een relatief ongevaarlijke stof. Tijdens een allergische reactie komt histamine vrij, dat voor ontstekingsreacties en onwillekeurige samentrekkingen van spieren zoals de luchtpijp en de bronchiën zorgt. Symptomen van een allergische reactie zijn: jeuk, irritatie, bultjes, roodheid, ademhalingsproblemen en soms anafylactische shock. Antihistamine remt de allergische reactie. Een allergieanamnese is belangrijk om eventuele voorkombare allergische reacties in de praktijk te beperken en het risico op anafylaxie te verminderen. De allergische rhinitis, voedselallergie en medicijnallergie worden besproken, inclusief de medicijnen die hierbij van toepassing zijn, alsook wat te doen in het geval van een allergische reactie of anafylactische shock.
