Inleiding

Volwassenen met een AHA vormen een unieke en gestaag groeiende patiëntenpopulatie met specifieke psychosociale behoeften en noden. Zij verschillen in psychologisch opzicht van volwassenen met verworven hartziekten omdat zij zijn opgegroeid met een hartafwijking. De AHA heeft vanaf de geboorte een stempel kunnen drukken op belangrijke aspecten van het leven. Omdat deze patiënten bovendien de eerste generatie vormen van personen die opgroeiden met een AHA en er tot voor kort weinig bekend was over hun psychosociaal functioneren, richt het merendeel van de wetenschappelijke studies zich op de vraag: ‘Hoe is het psychosociaal functioneren van (jong)volwassenen met een AHA?’
