Inleiding
Gedeelde besluitvorming , ofwel shared decision making, is een werkwijze waarbij behandelaar en patiënt samen beslissingen nemen over het te volgen diagnostisch of therapeutisch beleid. Dit veronderstelt dat de behandelaar de patiënt optimaal informeert over diens ziektestatus en de opties voor het beleid en dat de patiënt zijn persoonlijke wensen en voorkeuren actief inbrengt bij de besluitvorming.
