Het evalueren van subjectief ervaren vermoeidheid bij de ziekte van Parkinson

Inleiding

Vermoeidheid is een veelvoorkomend probleem bij patiënten met een neurologische aandoening. Ongeveer 32 tot 50 procent (Alves, Wentzel-Larsen & Larsen, 2004; Herlofson & Larsen, 2002) van de patiënten met de ziekte van Parkinson klaagt over vermoeidheid. Vermoeidheid kenmerkt zich door de moeite die het een patiënt kost om tot bewuste activiteit te komen en deze activiteit vol te houden (Chaudhuri & Behan, 2004). Vermoeidheid bij patiënten met een neurologische aandoening wordt vaak gezien als een multidimensioneel probleem dat het gevolg is van een samenspel tussen het onderliggende ziekteproces, perifere controlesystemen (spiervermoeidheid), centrale controlesystemen (subjectief ervaren vermoeidheid), motivatie en omgevingsfactoren (Chaudhuri & Behan, 2004). Vermoeidheid bij de ziekte van Parkinson kan een opzichzelfstaande klacht zijn, maar kan ook het gevolg zijn van bijkomende neuropsychiatrische stoornissen zoals depressie of angst (Friedman et al., 2010).
