Inleiding
Er is een enorme hoeveelheid wetenschappelijk onderzoek verricht naar aspecifieke lage rugpijn in de eerstelijnsgezondheidszorg. Vooral in de afgelopen twee decennia zijn honderden gerandomiseerde effectonderzoeken uitgevoerd en gepubliceerd. Deze zijn inmiddels op systematische wijze samengevat in literatuuronderzoek zoals gepresenteerd in hoofdstuk 4 en 5 van dit boek. Onderzoeksresultaten worden doorgaans gepubliceerd in wetenschappelijke tijdschriften, maar dit biedt geen garantie dat deze resultaten daadwerkelijk de doelgroep bereiken (disseminatie ), noch dat ze in de dagelijkse praktijk worden gebruikt (implementatie ).1–3 Een bijkomend probleem in Nederland en België is dat wetenschappelijk onderzoekers gemotiveerd worden de resultaten van hun onderzoek te publiceren in internationale, veelal Engelstalige, wetenschappelijke biomedische tijdschriften. Het aantal publicaties en de zogeheten impact factor van het tijdschrift waarin de artikelen worden gepubliceerd, zijn beoordelingscriteria voor wetenschappelijk onderzoekers. Implementatie van onderzoeksresultaten wordt meestal niet actief beoefend. Er blijft dus een kloof bestaan tussen wetenschap en praktijk. Richtlijnen zijn bij uitstek het middel om deze kloof te overbruggen. In hoofdstuk 6 is beschreven hoe de resultaten van wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar aspecifieke lage rugpijn zijn gebruikt bij de ontwikkeling van nationale en internationale richtlijnen.
