Inleiding
Volgens de World Health Organisation is pijn ‘een onplezierige gewaarwording die optreedt bij dreigende weefselbeschadiging’. Fysiologisch gezien gaat het dus om een waarschuwingssysteem. Bij tandheelkundige behandelingen ervaart de patiënt pijn als onplezierig, waardoor het voor de tandarts onmogelijk is zijn werk naar behoren uit te voeren.
