Inleiding
Bij de ontwikkeling van allergie en haar manifestaties bij kinderen zijn zowel genetische aanleg als omgevingsfactoren van belang. Gedurende de laatste 30 jaar is het voorkomen van allergische aandoeningen ongeveer verdubbeld; dit betreft astma, atopische dermatitis en hooikoorts. Vooral bij kinderen zijn deze toegenomen, waardoor de stijging voornamelijk in de laatste kwart eeuw moet hebben plaatsgehad.
