Inleiding
Het renine-angiotensine-aldosteronsysteem (RAAS) is een complex hormonaal-enzymatisch systeem met het angiotensineconverterend enzym (ACE) als een van de componenten (figuur 17.1). Angiotensine II (AII) , een peptide van acht aminozuren, is het belangrijkste biologisch actieve product van het RAAS. De laatste stap bij de vorming van AII is de afsplitsing van twee C-terminale aminozuren van het decapeptide angiotensine I (AI) , en het is deze reactie die door ACE wordt gekatalyseerd.
