Chronische lymfatische leukemie en andere zeldzame lymfatische leukemieën

Inleiding

Chronische lymfatische B-celleukemie (CLL ) is de meest voorkomende leukemie in de westerse wereld. De aandoening komt voornamelijk bij ouderen voor, met een incidentie oplopend tot 50 per 100.000 boven de 70 jaar. Ongeveer twee derde van de patiënten is ouder dan 65 jaar. De laatste jaren lijkt de ziekte vaker op jongere leeftijd op te treden. De oorzaak van CLL is niet bekend. CLL is niet geassocieerd met blootstelling aan bestraling of chemicaliën, noch met immuundeficiëntie . Wel lijkt er een genetische predispositie te bestaan: CLL komt vooral voor bij het blanke ras, maar wordt zelden gezien bij Oost-Aziaten, zelfs indien deze woonachtig zijn in de Verenigde Staten. Ook komt CLL binnen bepaalde families voor, waarbij de ziekte bij opeenvolgende generaties op steeds jongere leeftijd tot uiting komt.
