In veel Europese landen bestaat tegenwoordig een multiculturele samenleving, met een steeds groter percentage van personen met een niet-westerse achtergrond. In Nederland is 10% van de bevolking van niet-westerse oorsprong; minstens de helft van hen is moslim.
