Samenvatting
In de biologie staat het begrip territorium voor ‘ieder gebied dat wordt verdedigd’. Een territorium biedt bescherming zodat alle handelingen die van belang zijn om de groep in stand te houden, rustig uitgevoerd kunnen worden. Zowel bij mensen als dieren moeten de leden van de groep en vooral de jongen beschermd worden. Het vergaarde voedsel moet conform de hiërarchische structuur verdeeld worden, de beschikbaarheid van seksuele partners moet gegarandeerd worden enzovoort. Begrippen als grenzen, afstand en nabijheid, omvang van het territorium, de structuur ervan, de wetten en regels en hiërarchie zijn hierbij van belang.
