Samenvatting

Fysiotherapeuten krijgen vaak de vraag of een cliënt het werk kan hervatten. Voor de beantwoording van die vraag is het nodig inzicht te hebben in de belastbaarheid van de cliënt in relatie tot zijn of haar arbeidsbelasting. In dit hoofdstuk is een methodiek beschreven waarmee fysiotherapeuten de arbeidsbelastbaarheid kunnen vaststellen. Deze methodiek staat bekend onder de naam ‘functional capacity evaluation’ (fce). Na een inleiding over arbeidsbelastbaarheid en methoden om dit te bepalen, wordt in de rest van het hoofdstuk aandacht besteed aan de testeigenschappen van de fce bij mensen met chronische lage-rugklachten. Achtereenvolgens komen aan de orde de veiligheid, betrouwbaarheid, validiteit en de praktische bruikbaarheid. Er zijn weliswaar positieve wetenschappelijke ontwikkelingen, maar er zijn ook nog immer kennishiaten. Met reserve kan gesteld worden dat het gebruik van fce’s geschikt is voor het vaststellen van de arbeidsbelastbaarheid.
