Abstract
Tot het archiniveau behoren o.a. het ruggemerg (spinaal) en de craniale voortzetting daarvan, de formatio reticularis. Hoewel dit niveau het laagst in de hiërarchie is, wil dit geenszins zeggen dat het hier om simpele mechanismen gaat. Recente fysiologische gegevens wijzen er steeds meer op dat uiterst complexe processen en interacties via het spinale niveau tot stand kunnen komen. Men kan hierbij denken aan de talrijke viscerosomatische en somatoviscerale interactiewegen (fig. 7-1) (Van Cranenburgh, 1985) of aan neuronenschakelingen die in staat zijn functionele impulspatronen te genereren (b.v. voor loop- of adembewegingen).
