Samenvatting

Vrijwel ieder mens maakt in zijn leven een periode door waarin hij zich zorgen maakt over lichamelijke klachten of sensaties en misschien zelfs naar de huisarts gaat om zich te laten onderzoeken. De meeste mensen zijn na medisch onderzoek en geruststelling niet meer bezorgd. Dit is niet het geval bij de hypochondere patiënt. Mensen met hypochondrie leven met de voortdurende angst of overtuiging dat ze lijden aan een ernstige ziekte. Ondanks medisch onderzoek en geruststelling blijven ze overbezorgd en angstig. Een hypochondere patiënt heeft de angst te lijden aan een ernstige ziekte. De verschillende vormen van kanker staan nummer één op de lijst van gevreesde ziekten. Deze patiënt gaat op zoek naar geruststelling.
