Abstract
Demografie is de wetenschap die zich bezighoudt met het bestuderen van ontwikkelingen in de omvang, de samenstelling en de ruimtelijke verdeling van de bevolking. Deze ontwikkelingen worden mede bepaald door veranderende waarden en normen in de samenleving en door maatschappelijke processen. Omgekeerd zijn de ontwikkelingen die zich voordoen in de omvang, de samenstelling en de ruimtelijke verdeling van de bevolking weer van invloed op verschillende maatschappelijke processen als huisvesting, arbeidsmarkt, sociale zekerheid en gezondheidszorg.
