Preprothetische chirurgie bij edentaten

Abstract

Bij bestudering van de literatuur is het verrassend te moeten constateren dat over de preprothetische chirurgie bij de oudere patiënt nauwelijks iets te vinden is. Waarom is onbekend. Enerzijds kan dit komen doordat men (nog afgezien van de kosten-baten-analyse) deze categorie patiënten te oud acht om een uitgebreide kaakoperatie te laten ondergaan. Anderzijds hebben deze patiënten mogelijkerwijs leren leven met het ongemak van hun prothese(n) en/of zijn zij niet op de hoogte van de mogelijkheden tot verbetering.
