Abstract
In de geneeskunde is informatie-uitwisseling tussen arts en patiënt van belang voor diagnostiek en behandeling. Artsen en patiënten signaleren tekorten in die informatie-uitwisseling die niet alleen onaangenaam zijn, maar ook ongunstige medische gevolgen kunnen hebben. Van de vele factoren die de tekorten in de communicatie kunnen veroorzaken, wordt er in dit hoofdstuk één besproken: het verschil in denken belevingswereld van arts en patiënt.
Na de schildering van een praktijksituatie wordt verduidelijkt hoe in dat verschil de oorsprong kan liggen van leemten en misverstanden in het contact tussen arts en patiënt. De kloof tussen die twee werelden is te overbruggen en de communicatiemoeilijkheden zijn te overwinnen. Echter daarvoor is dan wel een zorgvuldigheid in de gespreksvoering nodig en dat vereist kennis en vaardigheid.
