Samenvatting
Europa vergrijst in een snel tempo en die vergrijzing zal resulteren in een toename van de zorgvraag terwijl juist minder handen beschikbaar zijn om zorg te kunnen verlenen. Behoud van zelfstandigheid bij het bereiken van een hoge leeftijd is daarom een van de grote uitdagingen voor de komende decennia. Technologie kan hieraan bijdragen door begeleiding en zorg op afstand mogelijk te maken. In dit hoofdstuk worden enkele ontwikkelingen op het gebied van bewegingstechnologie en informatie- en communicatietechnologie gepresenteerd die bijdragen aan het verbeteren of behouden van zelfstandige mobiliteit. Bewegingsregistratiesystemen met op het lichaam gedragen bewegingssensoren kunnen inzicht geven in bewegingsuitvoering. Met behulp van moderne communicatietechnologie is informatie die bijvoorbeeld in de thuissituatie wordt gemeten, direct op afstand beschikbaar te stellen aan zorgverleners. Toepassing van draagbare bewegingsregistratiesystemen kan bijdragen aan de verbetering van beweeginterventies, enerzijds door het objectiveren van de effecten van een interventie op de balans- en loopfunctie, anderzijds door bewegingsgerelateerde informatie te gebruiken als onderdeel van een interventie. Dit alles wordt in dit hoofdstuk toegelicht aan de hand van toepassing bij verouderingsgerelateerde balansproblematiek zoals bij ouderen met een verhoogd valrisico en patiënten met de ziekte van Parkinson.
