Samenvatting

De prevalentie van diabetes mellitus bedraagt 2-4% in welvarende westerse landen en 1-2% in ontwikkelingslanden. Bij diabetes worden twee hoofdtypen onderscheiden: diabetes mellitus type 1 en type 2.
