Samenvatting
Bij ongeveer 2-4% van alle patiënten met een maligniteit worden wel metastasen gevonden maar geen primaire tumor. Soms is dit de klinische presentatie van een lymfoom, sarcoom of melanoom, maar bij de overgrote meerderheid van de patiënten betreft het een carcinoom. Er is per definitie sprake van een onbekende primaire tumor of ‘unknown primary’ wanneer aan de volgende drie voorwaarden wordt voldaan:
