Het geriatrie formularium

Abstract

Het verouderingsproces van de huid is samengesteld uit de componenten photoaging (door actinische schade; een leven lang blootstelling aan ultraviolet licht), chronologische (genetisch gestuurde) veroudering en hormonale invloeden (afname van de geslachtshormonen). Precieze mechanismen hiervan zijn nog grotendeels onopgehelderd. De klinische kenmerken van een verouderende huid zijn atrofie, verslapping van de weke delen van de huid door elastinedegeneratie, rimpels, droogheid (xerosis), pigmentaties, grijze verkleuring van de haren en afname van het aantal talgklieren en haren.
