Samenvatting

Dit hoofdstuk behandelt de symptomatologie van en het tandheelkundig handelen bij kinderen met een verstandelijke beperking, met bijzondere aandacht voor het syndroom van Down, kinderen met een motorische beperking en kinderen met een sociale beperking: autisme en ADHD. Binnen de context van dit handboek wordt de gegeven informatie tot de essentie beperkt. De (kinder)mondzorgverlener die zich nog meer wil verdiepen in deze bijzondere doelgroepen wordt verwezen naar specifiekere handboeken (Broers, 2011). De mogelijk psychiatrische componenten bij kinderen met een verstandelijke beperking werden in hoofdstuk 43 besproken.
