Samenvatting
Hart- en vaatziekten (HVZ) staan in bij vrouwen op de eerste plaats en bij mannen op de tweede plaats als belangrijkste doodsoorzaak. Grote populatiestudies hebben inzicht gegeven in de belangrijkste risicofactoren voor HVZ. Veel van die factoren kunnen worden behandeld, zodat het risico op HVZ kan worden verlaagd. Hierdoor is er voor de eerste lijn een belangrijke taak weggelegd wat betreft de preventie van HVZ. De huisarts heeft immers als geen andere arts zicht op de bij hem of haar ingeschreven populatie.
