Abstract
De Grieken kenden het ziektebeeld reumatoïde artritis al in de oudheid. Het woord ‘reuma’ is afkomstig van het Griekse woord dat ‘stroom’ of ‘ziekteverwekkende vloeistof ’ betekent. Reumatoïde artritis betekent letterlijk: reumatische gewrichtsontsteking. Veelal wordt de naam van de ziekte afgekort als RA.
