Inleiding

Urologische tumoren komen voor het grootste deel voor bij de man. Dit heeft te maken met het feit dat het prostaat-, penis- en testiscarcinoom alleen bij de man kan voorkomen, maar ook bij de niet-seksegebonden tumoren is de incidentie hoger bij de man dan bij de vrouw. Een aantal tumoren heeft een lange overleving waarbij curatie vaak mogelijk is. Andere hebben soms intensieve behandeltrajecten die niet altijd leiden tot genezing. Dit maakt de urologie tot een zeer divers subspecialisme in de oncologie.
