Samenvatting

Fysieke inactiviteit verdient de aandacht van elke clinicus die zorgt voor patiënten met obstructieve longziekten. Inactieve patiënten hebben meer exacerbaties, een slechtere overleving en meer morbiditeit. Het meten van fysieke activiteit met vragenlijsten wordt alleen aangeraden om een idee te krijgen van de symptomen die met fysieke activiteit gepaard gaan. Metingen van de hoeveelheid fysieke activiteit kunnen vandaag de dag gebeuren met activiteitenmeters. Er zijn echter een aantal methodologische uitdagingen die het meten van fysieke activiteit en de interpretatie van de gegevens bemoeilijken. De normale variabiliteit in de fysieke activiteit is zonder twijfel de grootste uitdaging. Nieuwe instrumenten zijn in ontwikkeling om deze problemen minstens gedeeltelijk aan te pakken.
