Bij het voorschrijven en de keuze van orale anticonceptiva spelen vele aspecten een rol. Ook hier is een uitgebreide anamnese altijd op zijn plaats. Er zijn een aantal soorten orale anticonceptiva. De keuze bestaat uit de eerstegeneratiepillen, die kunnen worden onderverdeeld in een- en tweefasenpreparaten) en sub-50 pillen, waarvan een- en driefasenpreparaten bestaan.
