Samenvatting

Jicht is een wereldwijd voorkomende aandoening die gekenmerkt wordt door vorming en neerslag van natriumuraatkristallen. Een continue afbraak van purinebasen tot urinezuur en een matige klaring van urinezuur vormen de onderliggende oorzaak. Hierdoor ontstaat er gemakkelijk een positieve urinezuurbalans, dat wil zeggen, het lichaam neigt ertoe te veel urinezuur vast te houden.
