Abstract
Zowel internationaal (McKinney, 1989; Rock, Fessler & Church, 1997; Bender & Wall, 1994) als nationaal (Gadeyne, Ghesquière & Onghena, 2002) zijn er sterke aanwijzingen dat leerproblemen niet altijd, maar wel vaak, samengaan met gedragsproblemen. Rock et al. (1997) vermelden percentages van 24-52% kinderen met leerproblemen die ook gedragsproblemen hebben, terwijl 38-75% van de kinderen met gedragsproblemen ook leerproblemen heeft. Kinderen met leerproblemen kunnen kortweg worden gedefinieerd als kinderen met een normale intelligentie, bij wie door beperkingen in één of meer ontwikkelingsprocessen, in combinatie met omgevingsfactoren, een discrepantie optreedt tussen feitelijke en potentiële leerresultaten. Zij vallen op door slechte schoolprestaties. Ligt de nadruk op deficiënties of aanlegtekorten bij het kind, dan wordt meestal gesproken van (primaire) leerstoornissen.
