Abstract

Peter is een jongen van 9 jaar, die sinds enige tijd gauw moe is en blauwe plekken heeft. Hij komt uit een gezin dat in een klein dorpje woont. Hij heeft een zusje van 3 en broertjes van 7 en 11 jaar. Peter deed op school aanvankelijk altijd met alles mee, maar haakt nu regelmatig af. Ook zijn leerprestaties laten momenteel enigszins te wensen over. Door de huisarts is hij verwezen naar een streekziekenhuis. Daar is een bloedbeeld bepaald dat aanleiding geeft hem al de volgende dag over te plaatsen naar een academisch ziekenhuis, zeventig kilometer van zijn woonplaats. Men vermoedt dat er sprake is van leukemie. Er komen geen ziekten voor in het gezin en ook op school bestaat weinig ervaring op dat gebied.
