Samenvatting
Het woord apexresectie is overgebleven uit het verleden, toen er nog onvoldoende inzicht bestond over de pathogenese van periapicale aandoeningen. In oude boeken over mond- en kaakchirurgie, zoals van Wassmund (1935)10 maar ook van Thoma (1963)9 en Archer (1966)1 wordt de nadruk nog gelegd op de resectie van ongeveer een derde deel van de wortel en verwijdering van al het periapicale ontstekingsweefsel en ‘necrotische cement’.
