Abstract

In de inleiding van dit boek werd betoogd dat ‘begrip’ van zoiets als psychopathologie betekent dat we oorzaak-gevolgrelaties kennen. En dat de experimentele methode daar de koninklijke weg toe is. Dat klinkt aardig, maar wat moet een rechttoe-rechtaanclinicus daar nu mee? Wat heb je eraan, in de praktijk van alledag? Dat is een legitieme vraag. Psychopathologie is niet alleen een theoretische puzzel, maar ook een praktisch probleem. Voor patiënten, hun omgeving, behandelaars en de maatschappij. Als wetenschappelijk onderzoek zich richt op een praktisch probleem, dan mag verwacht worden dat het onderzoek helpt het probleem (deels) op te lossen. Hier dan, tot slot, een antwoord op de vraag wat we er in de praktijk aan hebben, aan die experimentele psychopathologie. Het wordt een antwoord in drie delen: experimenteel therapie-effectonderzoek , experimentele psychopathologie als heuristiek, en het gedragsexperiment.
