Abstract

Ouders blijven belangrijk, ook als kinderen in de adolescentie meer en meer autonoom worden. Dat is de rode draad die door de vorige hoofdstukken loopt. In de eerste plaats, enigszins paradoxaal, omdat zij de personen zijn van wie de jongere zich los moet maken. Zonder ouders - of volwassenen die de ouders vervangen - is geen individuatie mogelijk. In de tweede plaats spelen ouders een rol bij de drie persoonlijkheidsvormende processen - die leiden tot een regulerend Ego , een zo positief mogelijk zelfbeeld en een integrerend gevoel van identiteit. En ten derde vormen ouders een zo belangrijke context dat zij de mate meebepalen waarin met de adolescentie samenhangende factoren van invloed kunnen zijn.
