Samenvatting
● Door verlies van gebitselementen hebben veel mensen een restdentitie in de boven- en de onderkaak. Het al dan niet kunnen realiseren van een standaard gebitsmutilatie is bepalend voor het functieherstel door middel van een prothetische behandeling. In dit hoofdstuk wordt gefocust op de behandeling van een restdentitie in de onderkaak in combinatie met een edentate bovenkaak, met of zonder botatrofie. In de literatuur bestaat geen consensus over de vraag welke gebitsprothesen in deze gebitsmutilatie zonder toepassing van overkappingsprothesen op implantaten het meest doelmatig zijn. De te kiezen prothetische behandeling is vooral afhankelijk van de reeds opgetreden botresorptie in eerder edentaat geworden kaakdelen en van de beschikbare verticale ruimte om functionele gebitsprothesen te kunnen vervaardigen.
