Samenvatting

In 1798 vond een groep jagers in de bossen bij Aveyron in Frankrijk een wilde, twaalfjarige jongen. Hij sprak niet, luisterde niet, was agressief en niet gesocialiseerd. In die tijd werd een kind dat ‘oren heeft, die niet horen of horende niet verstaat, die niet zonder stem is en toch ook niet spreekt, of spreekt en zichzelf niet begrijpt’ voor doofstom aangezien (Sanders-Woudstra, 1985, p. 1).
