Samenvatting
Door de toepassing van ‘evidence-based medicine’ (EBM) zullen uitkomsten van wetenschappelijk onderzoek steeds vaker het dagelijks (be)handelen van de fysiotherapeut bepalen. EBM houdt in dat op basis van het huidige beste bewijsmateriaal beslissingen genomen worden over de behandeling van de patiënt. Steeds vaker verrichten fysio- en kinesitherapeuten metingen in hun eigen praktijksituatie. Alvorens te kunnen gaan meten is de keuze van het (juiste) meetinstrument echter van groot belang. Deze keus is niet altijd eenvoudig, het is voor fysiotherapeuten onmogelijk op de hoogte te zijn van alle beschikbare meetinstrumenten in het vakgebied. In dit hoofdstuk wordt beschreven waar fysiotherapeuten op moeten letten bij het kiezen van meetinstrumenten. Ook wordt ingegaan op mogelijke hulpmiddelen bij het maken van deze keuze, zoals recent systematisch literatuuronderzoek naar geschikte meetinstrumenten bij specifieke groepen patiïnten. Dit laatste wordt toegelicht aan de hand van een voorbeeld, een literatuuronderzoek naar meetinstrumenten bij patiïnten met artrose.
