Actieve aanpak van chronische lage rugpijn: klinisch onderzoek en behandeling

Samenvatting

Bij de actieve aanpak van chronische lage rugpijn, wordt vaak slechts gedacht aan de behoefte aan diverse oefeningen. Om de behandeling echter zo specifiek mogelijk op de individuele problematiek van de patiënt en zijn dagelijkse activiteiten te kunnen oriënteren is allereerst een uitgebreid, gestandaardiseerd en betrouwbaar klinisch onderzoek noodzakelijk. De behandeling die volgt is vaak samengesteld uit verscheidene componenten, met het accent op de belangrijkste hinder voor de patiëent. De behandeling moet voldoende individueel gericht zijn, maar het is niet zinvol om al te complexe oefeningen aan te bieden wanneer dat niet nodig is. De belangrijkste boodschap aan de patiënt is dat hij zelf een grote verantwoordelijkheid draagt voor het welslagen van de therapie en het streven naar onafhankelijkheid. Daartoe is een goede communicatie tussen de patiënt en therapeut essentieel.
