Samenvatting
De term Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) wordt gebruikt om kinderen te beschrijven die thuis of op school problemen hebben met taken die motorische vaardigheid vereisen. De problemen kunnen niet verklaard worden door een medische diagnose of door een laag intelligentieniveau. DCD komt vaak voor in combinatie met andere ontwikkelingsstoornissen zoals Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) of dyslexie. Het vaststellen van DCD, het toekennen van het diagnostisch label DCD aan een kind, kan enkel gebeuren door een multidisciplinair team. De term DCD beschrijft overigens alleen het motorische gedrag van het kind, het is geen verklaring en ook geen absoluut gegeven. Handelingsgerichte diagnostiek is vervolgens noodzakelijk om een zorg- of behandelplan te kunnen opstellen. Taakgerichte therapie lijkt momenteel het meest aangewezen voor kinderen met DCD.
