In dit hoofdstuk worden de ziektebeelden naar globale volgorde van incidentie besproken: gastro-enteritis, chronische diarree, parasieten, coeliakie en vervolgens de spugende zuigeling, obstipatie, appendicitis en invaginatie. De denkbeelden over de behandeling van obstipatie en coeliakie en ook de diagnostiek van Giardia lamblia zijn de laatste jaren veranderd.
