Samenvatting
Een tractus iliotibialis frictiesyndroom is de meest voorkomende vorm van laterale kniepijn onder langeafstandhardlopers1 en bergwandelaars. Het probleem ontstaat doordat een strakke tractus iliotibialis over de laterale femurepicondylus ‘schuift’ waardoor het ertussenin gelegen weefsel geïrriteerd raakt.2 Het geïrriteerde weefsel betreft een dun laagje rijk gevasculariseerd en rijk geïnnerveerd vetweefsel (figuur 4a-1).2,3 De irritatie kan doordringen tot in het botweefsel. Soms wordt bij patiëen met het iliotibiale frictiesyndroom met behulp van MRI zelfs botoedeem en boterosie aangetoond in de laterale femurepicondylus.6
