Samenvatting
Spieren kunnen zich uitstekend aanpassen aan verandering van omstandigheden. Als spieren niet gebruikt worden gaan zij hypotrofiëren. Als spieren getraind worden op het leveren van kracht hypertrofiëren zij.

1-RM = 1 repetition maximum = 1 herhalingsmaximum, ofwel het gewicht dat nét een keer in een vloeiende beweging over het hele bewegingstraject kan worden verplaatst. 10-RM is derhalve het gewicht dat maximaal tien keer kan worden verplaatst.

Mitochondria: staaf- of bolvormige organellen in de spiervezel. Hier vindt de aerobe verbranding plaats.

Snelkracht = explosieve kracht: dit is de eigenschap om weerstanden met hoge snelheid te overwinnen, bijvoorbeeld sprinten.
- 4.
Krachtuithoudingsvermogen = duurkracht: dit is de eigenschap om weerstanden gedurende langere tijd te overwinnen, bijvoorbeeld marathonlopen.
- 5.
Maximale kracht: dit is de maximale kracht die een spier kan opbrengen ofwel de maximale weerstand die hij kan weerstaan, bijvoorbeeld bij gewichtheffen.
