Bij plaatsing van orale enossale implantaten is een grondige preoperatieve planning noodzakelijk. Cruciaal in deze planningsfase is het radiologisch onderzoek dat essentiële informatie verschaft over meerdere lokale aspecten (onder andere dimensies en kwaliteit van het edentate kaakbot, lokalisatie en uitgebreidheid van anatomische structuren, parodontium van de restdentitie, bot- en/of sinuspathologieën) (Jacobs & van Steenberghe, 1998).
