Abstract

Sinds de cognitieve revolutie in de tweede helft van de vorige eeuw zijn cognitieve verklaringsmodellen van psychopathologie zeer gangbaar geworden en hebben cognitieve behandelingen van psychische stoornissen een hoge vlucht genomen. Onderzoek heeft overtuigend aangetoond dat standaard cognitieve therapie zoals geformuleerd door Beck en zijn navolgers effectief is voor de behandeling van veel as-I-stoornissen (o.a. Barlow & Hofmann, 1997; DeRubeis & Crits-Cristoph, 1998; Hollon, 1998; Scott, 1996). Dit enorme succes laat echter onverlet dat de resultaten van deze ‘eerste generatie’ van cognitieve therapieën minder gunstig uitvallen voor sommige meer chronische vormen van psychopathologie zoals persoonlijkheidsstoornissen, maar ook voor ernstige vormen van depressie en eetstoornissen (Cooper, 2005; Cottraux & Blackburn, 2001; Young, Weinberger & Beck, 2001).
