Extrapyramidal Diseases: Hyperkinetic Movement Disorders – Tics and Tourette Syndrome

  • Chapter
Prognosis of Neurological Diseases

Abstract

Tics are sudden, rapid, non-rhythmic, and repetitive muscle movements widely diverging in severity.

Tourette syndrome (TS), the most representative neurodevelopmental tic disorder, affects children, adolescents, and adults.

The spectrum of TS and Tic disorders ranges from transitory tics to chronic disorders.

Prognosis is generally not poor. However, if not properly treated, certain tic disorders may cause extensive functional and psychological limitations.
