Sclerotherapy in Vascular Malformations with Polidocanol Foam

  • Chapter
Book cover Hemangiomas and Vascular Malformations

Abstract

Sclerotherapy is a technique used to remove anomalous venous malformations through the injection of a sclerosing agent, classically a liquid, which produces a chemical destruction of the endothelial cells that coat the interior of the vessel. A thrombus is then produced, and the vein is finally transformed into a fibrous thread that ultimately disappears.
