Abstract
Sleep is normally associated with significant changes in many physiological functions, including respiration. The most important differences between wakefulness and sleep are body position, control of breathing, changes in resistance to flow, the ventilatory response to changes in work load, and the coordinated activation of the respiratory muscles.
