Il moto di un sistema di punti si dice rigido se le distanze tra tutte le coppie di punti si mantengono inalterate nel tempo. Analogamente, diciamo che un corpo B è rigido quando possiamo ritenere a priori che gli unici moti per esso possibili siano rigidi.
