Riassunto

Il neutrino emesso nel decadimento dei nuclei è il più leggero dei fermioni. Gli studi sperimentali dello spettro energetico dei β emessi nel decadimento del trizio (vedi cap. 8) indicano che la sua massa è inferiore a ∼ 2.2 eV e finora abbiamo supposto che essa sia zero (come la massa del fotone, il più leggero dei bosoni). Come abbiamo visto nei precedenti capitoli, molte osservazioni sperimentali sono consistenti con tale ipotesi.
