Abstract
This chapter introduces the hypothesis, concept generation and the primary findings of the practice-based design research that aim at creating design tools, which serve to observe user behaviour towards the idea of communicating emotions through wearable technology. This research argues that emotions can be embodied through wearable technology in order to strengthen social bonds by adding more empathy and understanding to the human–human communication. In order to verify the hypothesis three concepts were developed: Me&Myself, Nearby and Faraway. Primary surveys on somatic sensations of emotions and the usage of emotional wearable technology were done in order to obtain useful data for building the prototypes that are based on three concepts.
