Abstract

The abdominal aorta is the extension of the thoracic aorta, running into the retroperitoneal space through an aortic hiatus, near to the inferior vena cava and in front of the spine. The abdominal aorta ends at the aortic bifurcation, where it divides into two common iliac arteries, right and left (Fig. 10.1, Table 10.1). No relevant anatomic variants are described.
